A huge win for workers
U.S. Court of Appeals Upholds OSHA Silica Standard

Right before Christmas in 2017, millions of American workers who are exposed to deadly silica dust won a huge victory for safe working conditions. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia upheld OSHA's new standard on silica dust, rejecting objections filed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other employer groups.

The Court of Appeals has confirmed that companies in construction, foundries, mining, shipbuilding and many other industries are required to implement practical, affordable measures to limit worker exposure to silica dust, which can cause silicosis, cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Low-wage workers and those in the informal sector can now be assured of safer working conditions.

National COSH will continue our efforts to inform workers about how to exercise their right to a workplace free from harmful dust and other hazards.
